Case Study Freshness

While we are experts in public relations, we must admit we have a few sweet spots where we have a little extra OOMPH. So if you're involved in the graphic arts industry, healthcare, or education, cue the Windex® and give that rearview mirror a wipe.

Today you'll find us working with companies from FUJIFILM to Integrated Color, talking about everything from digital printers to spectrophotometers and custom color profiles. If someone in the graphic arts world is doing it, we'll get as smart as we can about it and then work with our clients to help them capitalize on whatever "it" is.

SinuCleanse

CHALLENGE

In 1997, Dr. Diane Heatley developed the SinuCleanse¨ system to relieve her patients' uncomfortable sinus and nasal symptoms. The system, a nasal wash, has been shown in studies and patient care to offer relief to those suffering from allergies and sinus problems. Nasal washing, called jala neti, is actually an ancient practice that KMPR was tasked with bringing into the modern world. We were up for it.

SOLUTION

The approach recommended by KMPR involved an integrated plan for Med-Systems, makers of the SinuCleanse products. Media relations was (and continues to be) a key component, but is only part of the work we do for the company. We began by holding brainstorming sessions to define our key messages, outline pitches and assign spokesperson roles. Once we had our message together, we went to the media.

While nasal washing is an old tradition, it was relatively unknown to most people. "Nasal washing?" and "A neti what?" were common responses. But, armed with samples, a custom media kit and instructional videos, we were able to show how the practice helps people with allergies, sinus infections, colds and even the common flu.

RESULTS

A media tour helped us introduce the practice to both consumer and health publications. The Oprah Winfrey Show did two segments on nasal washing, with guests reporting "life changing" results after just a few weeks. Regis and Kelly even tried it on the air.

KMPR continued to reach out to the media, in all forms, and the SinuCleanse system has appeared in stories in USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, Health, Quick & Simple, National Public Radio and many others as well as on TV stations across the country.
